Pie in the sky...

I have a new goal, since I've met the ones I've set for myself so far this year.

I want to go to Ireland sometime in 2010. It has been a lifelong dream for me to visit, as my Grandmother was from Ireland... and we still have family there who I would like to visit. I have always wanted to see what their life was like, and to see the country that Grandma loved so much.

On a scale from 1-10... this would be a level 10 goal to complete. Which would mean level 10 excitement, and level 10 lifelong memories.

I will do whatever it takes to make this happen, and this will be a rare opportunity to travel abroad as a single woman, and to make this dream happen for myself. Hopefully I can convince a friend to go with me, though - going truly alone would be scary!

Writing contests. Photo contests. I've got to find something I need to do this. I CAN do this!

So, readers... if you see a link to a contest for a trip to Ireland... please send them my way! I'm going to enter any and all that I come across!!!

  1. I have a friend that just came back from there. He loved it and didn't want to come back. He said if you ever get a chance to go GO! =) So I hope you get a chance.

  2. So at that price, this must be a kid-free trip - good for you! I hope it all works out.

  3. Oh, I could never take the kids!!! That would be thousands, and really hard by myself. It would be a short kid vacation, like Vegas but further.

  5. Several years ago my Aunt and Uncle went to Ireland for about 6 weeks. He was a Presbytrian minister in Oregon and he somehow met another Presbyterian minister in Ireland who wanted to visit the US. The ended up trading homes and churches for the 6 weeks. They stayed in each other's homes, preached at each other's churches, and got to live in the other country for an extended period of time. They only real cost to them was the plane tickets! They LOVED it!

Go to the library and get a book about traveling to Ireland. See if you can print out pictures from the internet. Read about it... surround yourself with photos... it will motivate you even more to meet this goal! And check out this website... www.discoverireland.com/us ... you can learn more about places you want to visit and sign up for emails from them to get "tips, latest deals and news."

  6. Mandi - join in the fun!

That's a great idea! Switching homes!!! Hm..... ;) I am going to get some books, and check out the website. I'm also going to contact Patrick, a family member who still lives there and is apparently very helpful with any of us who wants to visit. How fun, even to just think about it. But, I have a habit of making good things happen sometimes... :)

  10. That would be SO good for you, I could just see you going over there! I know you would love it. When ex DH and I went (we were stationed in Germany at the time so it wasn't too bad price wise), we took Ryan. He was only 5 months old so he did pretty good! It is so beautiful and serene. I will be searching for links for you to enter, for sure. Good luck with it, you deserve this.

When I typed in 'win a trip to Ireland', I was overwhelmed w/ search results... Some of them you can't really tell when they expire. Some of them, like the Frommers photo contest though, you can enter as many times as you want. And w/ the photo's you take - that's a contest w/ your name all over it!
